Hi All! Yesterday I went to a bunch of yard sales and got some REALLY great stuff! If you remember, I posted previously about my new tropical theme. I was on the hunt for books and cool tropical items.
Here’s what I got.
I saw this wicker shelf as I was driving by a yard sale, and I just had to stop. I thought it would be great for behind my guided reading table since I plan to get rid of the teacher’s desk and just use a table. That means I will need some teacher shelves back there. They only wanted 5 bucks! I was shocked, but super excited, so I scooped it right up.
Believe it or not, I actually found this wicker chair at a different yard sale! My car was full since I already had the shelf, so I actually came back to get it. They wanted 10 buck but I offered $8 and made a deal. I need to get a new cushion (the one that was on it was GROSS!). I plan to use this as my teacher chair for when we’re reading together. Students will also get the right to sit in this chair as a reward. 🙂 I know it’s huge but I just couldn’t resist!
I got this from the same people who sold me the chair for $1! I plan to keep my guided reading resources in here. 🙂 (Dontcha just love the parrot?)
The same people also threw in this awesome wooden car for 25 cents. I honestly have no use for it besides it’s cute, but I figure I’ll stick it on a book shelf somewhere.
Every tropical classroom needs a buoy, right? I plan to paint the red a bright blue to match my theme. I think this was 50 cents.
And of course I bought some fabulous books. I got some great deals! I only spent $30 for everything I bought today. I’m pretty happy with that!
I mentioned I had some news… If you’ve been following my blog for a little while, you know that I switched from one school where I had been teaching first grade the past three years to a new school where I was doing RTI, working for the assistant principal, and basically being a Jack of all trades.
Well, you might have noticed that the books I bought are all chapter books. That is because I recently found out that I will be back in the classroom next year (YAY) and I will be teaching… FOURTH GRADE! I’m not going to lie. I was very overwhelmed when I found out. I have always LOVED teaching first, and it’s going to be a big change. However, after having some time to think about it, I’m feeling more and more excited for a challenge and a change.
Don’t worry. I plan to continue to create primary resources, as well as branch out and create some upper elementary resources for my new class. I hope you will continue to follow my blog as I continue to share my ideas, resources, and ideas.
This is the first grade level change I’ve ever been through, so I’d love any thoughts, advice, or ideas. Feel free to leave comments below!
Thanks for stopping by, and enjoy the rest of your Sunday!
