How can you be sure that you are fully addressing all aspects of each common core math standard?
That is the question that I asked myself when I created my Activities by the Standard resources for first grade and second grade. I’ve created resources that helps you streamline your instruction, reduce planning time, and ensures that you address every aspect of every common core math skill!
By focusing on each standard on its own and teaching it completely, you will be able to truly know whether or not your students completely understand the concept before moving on to a new skill! Many activities out there claim to address a standard, but they also claim to address multiple standards at the same time. While, of course, you can work on more than one skill at once, I’ve found that often it only sort of kind of addresses some of the standards in which it claims to. That is why I created these comprehensive resources so you can truly isolate each skill. This makes completing standards based report cards so much easier. It also gives you complete confidence when discussing with parents exactly what skills your students need to focus on!
I’ve done the legwork for you so you can focus on the important part: working with your students to help them gain the foundational math skills they need! So, let’s take a peek to see what exactly is included for each and every common core math standard for first and second grade!
What’s Included for Each Common Core Math Standard?
Teach It Guide- Planning Made Easy!
Each Teach It Guide includes 3 sections. Introduce, Practice, and Assess. This makes planning a snap!
Introduce:
-a picture book recommendation or hook activity
-a song for students to sing
-group practice activity
Practice:
-a clickable list of activities included to practice the skill
Assess:
-a “real life” or hands on assessment activity
-a paper and pencil assessment activity
Posters & Song
Each standard includes a fun, original song sung to children’s classics and posters to hang in your classroom. Posters are color-coded by strand for easy organization, and each poster also comes in gray scale to save ink. The posters are a great reference for students and a fabulous teaching tool for you!
Interactive Notebook Pockets:
Sorting is a fantastic skill to help students understand new concepts. The pocket activities for each standard allow students to do just that! These also provide an activity that students can complete again and again.
Interactive Notebook Flippers:
Interactive notebook flippers for each concept allow students to practice skills. The low cutting templates make for quick and easy assembly, and students can refer back to the skills over and over since they’re organized and stored in their interactive notebook!
Printable Activities:
There are a minimum of 5 printable activities for each standard, but many include more. A variety of activities keeps practice fun and fresh!
Activities are designed to be low/no prep for teachers, use materials you’ll already have in your classroom, engage students, and challenge students to think! Answer keys are always included as well for easy grading.
Assessment Checklist:
The Assessment Checklist for each standard allows you to track whether or not students have mastered a skill. Some include an Assess It Mat for the Real Life Assessment. You can find the real life and paper and pencil assessment ideas on the Teach It Guide. Editable templates are also included if you purchase the complete bundles!
You can purchase the entire bundle for each grade level, each standard individually, or you can purchase by strand!
