Common core math, or new math, if you don’t use common core, isn’t all that new anymore. However, many teachers still struggle with being sure they are fully teaching each standard. It can be tricky because common core standards are deep, not wide. Each grade level strand is designed to push our students to dive deeply into it. Instead of our students learning a little bit about a lot, they learn a lot about less topics. This can present a lot of challenges for first and second grade teachers.
Additionally, many schools have moved towards standards based report cards. That means as teachers, we need to know what standards each student has mastered, which they are still working on, and what skills within each standard we need to continue to focus on. Oh, and we need the data to back it up, of course. This can be overwhelming if you’re also teaching your first and second graders reading, writing, science, social studies!
If you’re struggling with breaking down each standard, planning and teaching it completely, and then simply but effectively tracking student data, you’re not alone, and I’m here to help! I’ve created a free email series that focuses on making your math planning, instruction, assessment, and tracking easier.
You will learn:
- how to break each standard down and fully teach each concept
- how to successfully use interactive notebooks to support learning
- how to make practice FUN and engaging
- how to assess in multiple ways to ensure accuracy
- how to track student learning simply
I’ll also share some fantastic free resources along the way to get you started! You can simply sign up by completing the short form below.
