Favorite books for teaching students to be caring
Be Kind is a gentle book about how being kind doesn’t have to be a big act. Sometimes it can just be thinking about others and trying to meet them where they need to be met.
Strictly No Elephants is such a lovely book about being inclusive and treating others in a kind and fair way. Students will enjoy the beautiful pictures and story line.
My Friend is Sad is an Elephant and Piggie book with a lovely message about how to be a good friend to someone who is feeling sad. In true Mo Willems fashion, this book is cute and lovely with a great message.
Sulwe is a beautiful picture book in seeing the beauty in everyone. Sulwe has skin the color of midnight, and she wishes that her skin was more like the rest of her family. Through this lovely picture book, she learns to love and be kind to herself. In the end, she sees her own beauty.
The Peace Book is a typical TOdd Parr book meaning it’s beautiful, child friendly, and has a fantastic message about kindness, caring, and peace.
Be a Friend is a simple and beautiful story about how it can be hard to find friends when you’re different. This book is a great conversation about how we can be kind and caring to people who are a little bit different than us.
