CVC word lists: CVC short vowel words are some of the first words kindergarten and first grade students learn. These printable word lists are the perfect tool to help students focus on a specific group of words in a word family.
This resource includes 51 short vowel word families that are either CVC or CVCC words. These CVC word lists are print, cut, and go. These lists are designed to be distraction free for students and ready to go for teachers. These lists are not editable. If you are looking for editable lists, you can find an editable word list template here.
Word families included:
short a
at, ap, an, ad, am, ag, and, ack, ank, ax, ang, ash, ath
short e
en, et, ed, eg, ell, eck, end, ent
short i
it, ip, in, ig, id, ib, im, ill, ick, ing, ink
short o
ot, op, ob, og, ox, od, ock, ong, onk
short u
ut, ug, ub, ub, ud, um, uck, ump, unk, ung
Each word family includes all known and appropriate CVC or CVCC words. At the bottom of the lists, under the line, I have also included some “challenge words” in the word family that include blends and digraphs. You can choose to include these or just cut them off for students who are not ready for them.
There are two versions included:
Version 1 includes 3 different word families per page.
Version 2 includes the same word family 3 times on a page.
